Fossil Men's 42mm Collider Stainless Steel and Leather Hybrid HR Smart Watch, Color: Black, Brown (Model: FTW7008)
Review
The Fossil Hybrid Hr Collider combines timeless analog styling with an always-on monochrome display. It also has a ton of interesting features.
Fossil Men’s Collider Design is sleek
The Fossil Men’s Collider has an extremely classy and conventional appearance. Its black watch case has darker-colored bezels and straps on it. The three buttons on the side of the device, which are used instead of a touchscreen, can be used to activate a variety of watch UIs, such as a notification display, a wellness display, and others.
Comfortable to wear
The Fossil Men’s Collider’s included black rubber straps are of high quality, making them comfortable to wear all day. However, there are no size possibilities, and a person with thin wrists might find the watch a little bit too big.
Nice E-ink display
A monochrome, always-on e-ink display is present on the Fossil Hybrid HR Collider. The e-ink display complements the watch’s overall style and uses little battery power.
It is not just energy-efficient but also easy to look at even in direct sunshine because it does not reflect light. The watch uses a backlight for the other extreme, low light or at night, but this feature can occasionally be unresponsive and uneven.
E-ink displays have slower refresh rates than LCD screens because they are less sensitive.
Fossil Men’s Collider smartwatch app has many features
Many watch features can be accessed via the Fossil Hybrid app. Using the Fossil app, you can modify the actions of the watch buttons. The app has a section called “Home” where you can access all the fitness data you’ve logged, including steps taken, active minutes, calories burned, heart rate, and sleep. Additionally, the Alerts area allows you to customize the Notifications settings.
Another innovation is a Find My Watch feature that keeps track of the watch’s location and can ring your phone if you can’t find it.However, doing this necessitates having the program open all the time.
The app’s extreme minimalism and the small number of customization choices are its key downsides. Additionally, since there is no continuous sync, you will always need to manually sync the watch with the application, even if the app is running in the background and has a notification waiting in the notification panel.
Fitness tracking
The Fossil Hybrid HR Collider is a hybrid smartwatch, meaning it was not particularly designed for fitness enthusiasts. It provides you with the most basic fitness tracking options, like elliptical training, weight lifting, and treadmill jogging. Additionally, it can monitor your sleep patterns, steps taken, calories burnt, resting and active heart rates, and active minutes.
Sadly, there isn’t a GPS chip that can map and record your outside runs. Sometimes it even struggles to connect to your smartphone’s GPS to track your runs. Additionally, no automatic workout detection is present in it. So you’ll have to select it manually from the menu and start it. Additionally, the smartwatch displays erroneous results when you activate the training mode while it is not being worn.
Health tracking
The Fossil Hybrid HR Collider can track daily physical activities like steps walked, calories burned, active minutes, and sleep in addition to having a built-in heart rate monitor. The results from the optical heart-rate sensor, which can monitor both your resting and activity heart rates throughout the day, are also not very precise.
Additionally, neither a timer nor a manual option exists to shut off the system’s continuous heart rate monitoring. Every one to two minutes, the heart rate is monitored.
The wearable also performs an excellent job at tracking your sleep and giving you a thorough rundown of your night’s rest in the app. However, given its cost, it will be better off with additional functions like the capacity to monitor body energy levels, blood pressure, cycling, and hydration.
Standard battery life
The e-ink display on the Fossil Hybrid HR doesn’t use much power. Although the firm advertises that its wearable may last for two weeks, you can achieve nearly eight days of battery life with moderate use of services like continuous heart rate monitoring, workout, and others.
Friendly User Interface
The Fossil Hybrid HR Collider offers a fix for situations where the hands are obstructing the display. Simply flick your wrist back and forth to cause the hands to complete a 360-degree synchronized sweep of the watch face, allowing you to see the entire display as they pass by if you need to read the date but your minute hand is over that complication.
Another is that when a notification is received, the hour and minute hands will change to the nine and three o’clock positions so you can read it more readily. However, it is a bother to have to push and hold the middle button in order for the smartwatch to return to normal.
The processor and screen both have good speed and performance; however the user interface is slow if you need to move more than one screen.
Supports Android and iOS
Through the Fossil Hybrid app, the Fossil Hybrid HR Collider is compatible with both iPhones and Android smartphones. You must provide permissions individually for call alerts and SMS alerts. On the watch, you can’t answer calls, but you can decide whether to accept or reject them. Additionally, you have the option to only accept calls and messages from certain contacts through the app. Although there is no option to store music locally, you can also control the music on your smartphone from the watch.
